UFO Parade Part 3

This will be the most revealing of the UFO parade.  Wow!  I knew I had all these projects, but somehow they seemed smaller when they were folded up in the drawers.  I would rather not date these projects because they are some of my oldest UFOs.  Many of these are class samples.

Stories:  #1 - I had a quilting plan but I didn't feel confident to execute it so I packed it away, #4 - I thought it needed borders...Why??, #5 I didn't like it so I never finished it.

These were all class samples.  

1. Ugly block challenge.  Some of these are actually fun, and it was a great learning tool.  
2. Stiles and path blocks....and lots of them.
3. Applique wall hanging- love the colors, love the pattern, no desire to finish the applique
4. Holiday topper - missing the applique.  Does it really need it?  I think not - finish and gift to a non-sewer as they won't notice how uneven it is ;-)

1. My quilt group bought me this vintage top for Christmas 
2. A special friend made me this king size tumbler quilt - pieced by hand.  I want to add a few borders so it covers the mattress
3. Bonnie Hunter Pattern- Virginia Bound.  Let's just say I like paper piecing LESS than applique.  These few blocks were enough for me.

1. Christmas Tree Skirt  - Will have to do some serious thinking on what the pattern is.  As I look at the pile of blocks, I am wondering what I was thinking with the colors.  Perhaps when I lay them out I won't be thinking about the trash.  I think it makes a hexagon, but I will have to think some more on it.
2. Table topper that I was trying the technique.  I was tired of it when I had to repress and arrange the pieces.  Let me clarify that I didn't read the directions well and that is why I had to re-press them
3. Super easy Runner that I was testing.  Thank goodness my helper is only counting the soldiers and not my projects.

Fall Wall hanging- I actually took this apart a few years ago because I didn't like the small pumpkin color.  I replaced it with the more muted color.  I like this project.  I am not sure why I never finished it.

1.  More class projects - A fall and spring runner
2. Simple striped runner 
3. Snowman wall hanging done with Chenille - another applique
4. Patches and pinwheels- needs a border (even my helper has grown weary of the photo shoot)
5. Bow Ties -  This is my oldest UFO.  It needed one more border.  I should have done that when I had the plan straight in my head

1. I think this was going to be a wall quilt in the TV room- good news...It still matches. (Top left)
2. These are different blocks than number 1, but the same fabric. (Top right)
3. Duplicate (bottom left)....
4. Pile of 25 patch blocks - alias bingo squares
5. Spring Runner 

I hope I captured them all - Yes, 35 UFOs in this post alone.  On the bright side, lots of these projects are small in size and they shouldn't take long to quilt and finish.

I am not finished.  Stop back on Sunday for part 4  where I reveal the balance and the grand total.  I decided that I would not count the projects that I have cut out but not started.

My kids often ask me- What are you going to do with all these when you finish them.  Do any of you worry about that?

A Great Find

Thursday is my Salvation Army browsing day.  My children think I am a little crazy, but they have benefited from some of the items we have up-cycled.  Well, I was just delighted with my find last night.  It is not quilt related at all, but I thought I would post about it because it was exciting to me.  The cost of $2.95.

Do you know what this is?  Do you have one in your cupboard?  My husband had no idea what one of these were when we got married, but I told him I couldn't live without it.

This is exactly like the one my grandmother and my mother had...and it was made in Canada!  Somehow the cord wasn't with it, but that didn't stop me.  A trip to the hardware, and another $2.95, and presto....Beautiful hard boiled eggs!!

UFO Parade - Part 1

This is sort of embarrassing!  Perhaps this is what I need get me going.  Showing you everything I have stuffed away is sort of like parading through the street with no clothes on .  Part 1 of this parade is the projects that I have ready to quilt including the backing is made.

1. Apple wall quilt that I used as a sample for a beginner class a few years ago
2. Spicy Spiral table runners - class sample 2012
3. Plus Scrap quilt - Started 2012
4. Coins Quilt - Started 2012
5. Jacob Ladder quilt - 2005?  - this is the very first scrap quilt I ever made.  I put the borders on it in 2012
6. Crazy Star Baby quilt - blocks are from many years ago - added the borders in 2012
7. Christmas Take 5 
8. Hopscotch - put together in 2012
9. Pastel lap quilt - very old!  I found the binding fabric, so I decided to go ahead and finish this
10. Halloween hourglass.  Made these as leader and enders in 2012.  
11. Charm stars - put this together right before Christmas 2012
12. Halloween Take 5 with sashing

How many of these do you think will still be on the list in 2013?  (Please don't answer that)  This is the tip of the project list.  Just one tote worth  

New Year = New Goals

Sorry for my lack of blogging, but I have been having difficulty keeping up with everything that is going on. I am sad to say that I went the whole Christmas vacation without turning on a sewing machine. I am having considerable sewing withdraw! At the beginning of the year, I always like to look back at what I accomplished the previous year and set some new quilting goals.  I finished quite a few things last year, but almost half of them were not on the UFO spreadsheet that I maintain.  This is a good/bad news thing.  I didn't create more UFOs, but I also didn't reduce my number by much.  I hope to remedy that this year.  I am taking a picture of ALL my UFOs as of January 1.  I hope this will be the kick start I need to get going on some of them.

These are some of my sewing goals for this year

1. Finish 20 quilts/wall hangings from the UFO parade (parade will be starting later today)
2. Finish the tutorials on the FW blocks & substitutions ;-)
3. Improve my photography skills so my blogging pictures are more exciting
4. Limit my purchases enough so that all the fabric I have will fit on my shelves  (backings for 20 quilts should help with this don't you think?)

I hope everyone had a delightful Christmas and Happy New year.

I leave you with a picture of my simple tree this year.  I love that this tree takes about 5 minutes to put up, and 5 minutes to decorate.

I finished attaching the binding for the tree skirt and sorting the pile scraps.  I made some ribbon bookmarks too.  I hope to post the tutorial later this week.  It wasn't a very productive day.

Skirt is Quilted

I accomplished one thing so far this week- I finished quilting a tree skirt.  I have felt like I could take a nap at any given moment this week...wait I did take one last night.  I did a little line dancing in the squares, and some very bad ribbon candy in the tree trunks.  I keep practicing at this design, but I can't see much improvement.  This was made by my niece, and I knew she would just be happy to have it quilted.
